Err, don't want to frighten anybody, but I heard this on the Tumblrvine and it's damn scary:
I don’t usually feed into the culture of fear, but this is pretty important. I work at a school in my community called El Puente and we have been advised that the Bloods are having their initiation today. They actually have it every year at this time. However, the threat is very real today and they have said that they will be targeting young women. All the local schools have been notified and are sending children home and canceling after-school programs as we have. If you know anything about the Bloods you know that they tend to slash people on initiation. If you’re coming to Williamsburg, please think twice about it. And if you still must come then please be aware of this.

UPDATE: Is this just an urban legend? Williamsboard debates! Also, tonight there have been reports of murderers calling ... from inside the house!
UPDATED UPDATE: From NYC The Blog:
I taught a class on the Brooklyn College campus last night. A number of my students were getting text messages saying that the gang initiations were going to involve slashing the faces of random young women. Two other women in the class received cell phone calls from an aunt or mother telling them about this. It sounded phony to me. These students came from various neighborhoods in four different boroughs.

Coming home on the G train, I did see a woman with a bloody face completely covered by white bandages. Her body was all bandaged too. So perhaps this was real.
Also on my subway car were a flamingo, a vampire, two little princesses, Death with his scythe, a cowboy, a pregnant nun and Sarah Palin.

I am not sure about the story, but not surprised.
Two weeks ago, a police video camera was installed on Marcy and S. 5th Street due to increased drug activity on the block.
As the days get shorter, just keep aware and don't take undue chances. Don't flaunt things you may have that others do not. This economic decline is hurting folks and unfortunately, the it's starting to feel like the 70/80/s again.

I am surprised how I can hardly find this story on the news. This was a real event my cousin was one who got slashed and her doctor said she was the 11th getting stitches from the same incident that day! From a friend's brother who is a paramedic I got that there were numerous incidents with slashing that looks like a horror movie!
